General Information
Private Instruction Options
The Sailing Department offers private lessons for sailors of all ages and abilities, from late June until late August. They are generally offered on weekdays after 5:15 PM, and weekends between 9 AM and 4 PM, by reservation only. For more information on reserving a private lesson, and for pricing, please contact the Sailing Department.
Use of Club Sailboats
The Nantucket Yacht Club’s Sailing Department allows club members to charter / borrow the boats we use in our instructional programs. The most typical boat we have available for members to charter is the Rhodes 19. These are available from late June to late August, every day between 9 AM – 5 PM, provided they are not being used in our Junior or Adult Sailing classes, or for racing.
Fee for use of the Rhodes 19’s is $30 for a 3 hour pleasure cruise, or $50 for One Design Racing.
Reservations for the boats are required. To reserve a boat, you can fill out our online request form, email or call the Sail Office. Upon arrival at the waterfront, you should check in at the waterfront, where you will be assigned a boat and given a Check Out Form. Please take careful note of all special rigging notes and de-rigging instructions on this form, and return the form after your sail, noting any issues you encounter with the boat.
Borrowing boats other than the Rhodes 19 (i.e. RS Quest, 420) may be available based on approval by the Sailing Master, please contact the Sail Office for more information.
Rules:
To borrow a boat, a member must be on the approved sailors list. In order to be added to this list, members must:
- Fill out an application online, or download the application, and return to the Sail Office.
- The Sailing Master will review the application.
- The Sailing Master may determine that a check out session with an instructor is required – this will be billed to the member at our private lesson rate of $90/hour.
In winds above 15 knots, members must secure approval from the Sailing Master before taking out a boat.
All individuals on the boat must have PFDs. There is a box with PFDs for member use at the bottom of the ramp on the T-dock, on a first come, first served basis. The Sailing Department does not have PFD's available to borrow or rent.
Members must bring a VHF radio with them (to call the launch when they are done sailing, or for emergencies). If a member does not have a VHF radio, there are a few available to rent from the Sail Office for a $10/day fee.
